Breast augmentation continues to be one of the most requested plastic surgery procedures by women all over the world. Therefore, the issue of approaches to breast augmentation is critical for patients.

Breast Augmentation: Three Effective ApproachesImplant Placement for Breast Augmentation

Before explaining all the details, it is essential to know that breast augmentation is a plastic surgery that improves your appearance and provides the necessary safety when you want to wear a particular outfit or show off.

If you feel insecure because you are wary of plastic surgery due to a bad experience in the past or because you are afraid of general anesthesia, don’t worry. Popular approaches to breast augmentation in 2024 seem to result in less damage and more effective results!

Breast Augmentation: Three Effective Approaches

There are different ways to approach the breast cavity to place breast implants. These approaches primarily depend on your breasts’ shape, volume, protrusion, and degree of breast sagging.

Generally, breast augmentation is for patients who have little breast tissue and need an implant to show a better cleavage. However, some patients with sagging breasts need an implant placed to make the breasts look beautiful, with sufficient volume and in the most suitable position, followed by a breast lift. Here are three practical approaches to breast augmentation:

  • The incision at the edge of the areola: The current procedure is standard in patients with small breasts. Surgeons make the incision from the side of the areola (not more than 3.5-4 cm) and then insert the implant into the breast. When the surgeons ensure that the size and space between the breasts are as patients want, they carefully apply the very thin and almost invisible suturing of the scar.
  • The incision in the lower half of the breast: This method occurs when the patient needs breast augmentation, but there is some loose skin in the area. Maybe it’s the breasts with grade II ptosis. Plastic surgery then requires a breast lift to relocate tissues and remove excess skin. In this method, surgeons make the incision in the lower half of the breast and surround the keyhole, the areola. Then experts occupy a portion of the lower part of the breast to remove excess skin. Then the surgeons move the nipple and skin upwards, leaving a vertical line that will not be evident over time.
  • The incision in the breast fold: Patients with grade III ptosis and nipples protruding downwards will require breast augmentation with a lift. The incision will include the lower fold to remove excess breast tissue and restore breast shape. With this method, surgeons also aim to leave a firm breast, a beautiful neckline, and a thin scar that will heal within weeks.

Implant Placement for Breast Augmentation

In plastic surgery, there are two ways to place an implant in a breast augmentation procedure. Surgeons generally apply both placements to their patients and determine the most suitable alternative according to the characteristics of their breasts:

  1. Subglandular method: This application, which we know as the Supramuscular method, is a method that covers the implant with less tissue and leaves the distance between the breasts more prominent. These features also depend on the amount of glandular tissue in each patient.
  2. Submuscular method: This consists of placing the implant in such a way that it is surrounded and protected by the pectoral muscle. It provides a more natural breast shape, and the risk of contracture of the implant is less.

Depending on your anatomy and the volume and amount of breast tissue in your breasts, surgeons will always recommend the best way to insert prostheses into the breast cavity.
